In this talk, I will introduce the development of computational intelligence algorithms for solving difficult problems in biology. Firstly I will introduce my research in using data mining algorithms to discover cancer biomarkers from proteomic mass spectrometry data. Then I will present my work in using an optimisation algorithm to identify and quantify pure metabolites from 2D-JRES Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) data. Finally I will present my current work in using agent-based modelling and evolutionary artificial networks to investigate the evolution of animal self-organising collective behaviour.
